Energy Storage Faculty Consortium Project - Germany Day 4 Bosch

Bosch hosted our international exchange study tour this morning at the site of their prototype 2.7 megawatt lithium-ion battery designed for participation in the frequency regulation market. Located in a standard shipping container and connected directly to the medium voltage distribution grid at 11,000 volts through off the shelf solar photovoltaic inverters, this battery is capable of helping to support the Baden-Württemberg grid whether the frequency is below or above the appropriate level. The rapidly falling price for grid frequency regulation support had resulted in similar projects being economically infeasible for frequency regulation alone. Bosch has continued to develop similar products for individual customers who can take advantage of additional benefits of a battery storage system, such as peak shaving and backup power supply.
