Prior to leaving Stuttgart, our faculty consortium was
hosted this morning by ADS Technology. We met with Dr. Jens Kistner, Head of Product and Project Management for Energy Storage. He gave us an overview of the StoraXe Solutions,
how to treat batteries properly and one of the highlights was the Big-LinX
Energy Secure Links monitoring system that is able to monitor a battery system
down to each cell and provide data usage, temperature, and lifespan of the
batteries and capacity for warranty purposes. Our faculty had many questions
and took a lot from this visit!

In the afternoon we made our way to our next destination,
the Green City of Freiburg where we will spend the next three and a half days.
We were welcomed by Franziska Breyer from the Environment and Education
Department in the Mayor’s Office. Franziska gave us an enthusiastic overview of
the City and its green policies and its main principles of energy, which are
the preservation of resources, no nuclear power and climate protection. The
City of Freiburg has a target to reduce their CO2 emissions by 60% by the year
2020.
